Who’s doing it, not doing. Why or why not?

I'm conflicted because men in my family are uncut but my husband is circumcised. I decided it's up to him because he knows what it's like growing up with a penis

I left it to my hubby and so we did circumcise.

@mammabearr525,
same here, we’re American and my husband is circumcised and I felt it is his choice. My son is circumcised and this one will be too.

@mammabearr525,
I also let my husband decide. I've never been in a male locker room and I don't know what people tease about.

@DairyDelight0808,
I live in a highly circumcised area I’ll say (north east USA) and it’s only about 50% or less who do it. So the tide is turning

I didn’t with my first and I won’t if this is a boy either.
It’s not common in Australia. The only reason I would consider it is if my partner was or it was medically necessary.
I’m even more set in my choice after some of the stories that came from my 2023 group.

@lauren20069,
Yeah, I've seen/heard too many horror stories about complications from circumcisions. No one in my family is circumcised. (Possibly because my grandparents weren't Americans so it wasn't common for them? And my mom only has sisters.) My grandfathers both lived into their early 90s and had other medical complications, but never struggled with UTIs. My father and brother have never had issues. My husband's family is Catholic and they don't circumcise either.
I don't have any religious feelings about my kids' genitals, but I am very opposed to forcing elective body modifications on them before they are able to consent. My son is not circumcised and if this baby is a boy, he will not be circumcised either. If it is a girl, we won't be doing ear piercing until she is old enough to request it herself.

@cheeeezymama,
with it being such a common thing in America it was surprising just how many had a bad experience and how little education was provided on aftercare ect.
After my experience with getting my ears pierced the first time I’m waiting for my daughter to ask and understand why I will change out the studs right away and be ok with that.
I’ll have to cut her hair soon because it’s halfway down her back now. My son has full autonomy with his hair cuts. The only things he is not allowed to do it a rats tail or mullet.

No. There is no need. My eldest is not and this baby will not be either.
US is really one of the only first world countries where this is "normal". It makes no sense.

We live in the US. I had 2 cousins that weren’t and hated it as they were the only ones in the family that weren’t. They got it done at 11 at their own insistence. Very painful recovery at that age. They are both glad they did it.
My husband isn’t circumcised. He also hated always looking different from other guys. He’s also had some issues related to being uncircumcised (not hygienic) that affect sex. I said he could decide for our first son. He wanted him circumcised so we did. We will do the same for this boy.

we're expecting a boy and we're getting a circumcision. my husband's family has a history of boys who aren't circumcised at birth having health issues and needing a circumcision as toddlers or small children...so we consider it medically necessary.
I'd rather not risk it.

My first was a boy and we did not. If this baby is a boy he will also not be. It’s purely just a cosmetic procedure MOST of the world doesn’t circumcise

@Ciana1907,
not the majority of babies;
The majority of people you have seen are. Something to consider.

I don’t have a penis so it was my husbands decision. We circumcised our son and couldn’t be happier with our decision. To each is own, no judgement either way.

we live in the US and did not, we won’t be for this son either. our hospital doesn’t even offer it anymore because it is usually a cosmetic procedure with no real reason behind it other than it being the norm for western countries. religious practices like judaism often have their own ceremony as well where it is performed, so people who do it for religious reasons aren’t missing out either

I didn't circumcise my first son, he's 3 now, and all has been well. If this baby is a boy, we will also leave him intact. My first son has a different father, but both my ex husband and current one agree that they didnt/don't want to circumcise and they both regret that the choice was made for them.
